UAE Becomes World’s Third-Largest Humanitarian Donor

The UAE has climbed to the world’s third-largest humanitarian donor in 2025, contributing a remarkable US$1.46 billion in global aid. New UN data highlights the country’s expanding international footprint in relief, recovery, and long-term resilience. While this funding spans multiple regions, the UAE’s substantial support for Gaza further underscores its leadership in global humanitarian efforts.

The United Arab Emirates has secured its position as the world’s third-largest humanitarian donor in 2025, following new figures released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA). According to the UN’s Financial Tracking Service, the UAE committed US$1.46 billion, representing 7.2% of all global humanitarian funding recorded this year.

This ranking places the UAE behind only the United States and the European Union, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s long-standing mission to support vulnerable communities worldwide. The achievement reflects a clear continuation of the country’s humanitarian vision, which prioritises rapid response, long-term recovery, and sustainable development.

UAE leaders have repeatedly emphasised that humanitarian work forms a core part of the country’s identity, rooted in values of compassion, solidarity and shared responsibility. The nation’s relief efforts extend far beyond emergency aid, encompassing health, education, energy access, food security and infrastructure rebuilding in some of the world’s most fragile regions.

A major component of the UAE’s humanitarian activity in 2025 has been its extensive support for Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis remains one of the most urgent global emergencies. The UAE has emerged as one of the largest contributors to relief operations in the enclave, directing financial assistance, medical supplies, food convoys and water aid to civilians in need. Its efforts include field hospitals, temporary shelter support and sustained deliveries aimed at easing the ongoing crisis.

While Gaza represents one of the most visible aspects of its humanitarian commitment, the UAE’s overall contributions span multiple countries affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters. From Africa to South Asia and the Middle East, the aid has focused on both immediate survival needs and long-term stability, aligning with the country’s broader philosophy of building resilience rather than offering temporary relief.

The nation’s approach also reflects a belief in collaborative international action. The UAE frequently partners with UN agencies, international organisations and local humanitarian groups to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable communities effectively and efficiently.

With global humanitarian needs rising due to conflicts, economic instability and climate-driven disasters, the UAE’s elevated ranking carries added significance. It signals not only financial capability but a sustained commitment to taking on a leadership role in international relief efforts.

As the world continues to face complex and overlapping crises, the UAE’s contribution stands out as a model of proactive and values-driven global engagement. Its growing influence in the humanitarian landscape suggests that the country will remain a key player in shaping international aid priorities in the years ahead.
